Schulte table

A grid of scrambled numbers used as a drill to widen peripheral vision and improve concentration for faster reading.

A Schulte table is a square grid (commonly 5×5) filled with numbers in random order. The exercise: fix your gaze on the center and find the numbers in sequence using your peripheral vision, without moving your eyes around.

Practising with Schulte tables is a classic drill to:

  • Widen your perceptual span so you see more at once.
  • Sharpen concentration and reduce distraction.

Acceleread includes Schulte-table drills as part of its daily training mix.
